Jordan-Iraq electrical connection to begin operation on Saturday

The Director-General of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), Amjad Rawashdeh confirmed that the Jordanian-Iraqi electrical connection will enter service this week. He stated that the line will connect the Jordanian Risha power plant with the Iraqi Rutba station, operating at 132 kilovolts to supply loads in the Rutba area near the Jordanian border, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

Iraq and Jordan signed a document on February 11, 2024, in Amman, to provide the Iraqi side with electricity at a capacity of 40 megawatts in the first phase. Both parties considered the contract as part of a comprehensive Arab plan for the future Arab common energy market.

The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced the completion of the operation of the Iraqi-Jordanian electrical line, confirming that it will enter service next Saturday.

According to a document issued by the Iraqi General Electricity Distribution Company received by the agency's correspondent in Baghdad today, the Iraqi-Jordanian electrical connection will be operational on Saturday, March 30, 2024.
