Project Facts
The Jordan Oil Terminals Company (JOTC) has launched an ambitious project to install a solar heating system for its heavy fuel oil (HFO) storage tanks in Aqaba.
This initiative aims to provide a sustainable energy source for heating the HFO, which needs to be raised to specific temperatures for efficient pumping.
The project aligns with JOTC’s vision to integrate renewable energy into its operations, reduce storage and heating costs, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
The project was executed by Millennium Energy Industries on an EPC/Turnkey basis and involved installing 125 solar collectors, primary and secondary heating circuits, heat exchangers, pumps, and a backup boiler.
The solar system generates 1.1 MWth of thermal energy, with the backup boiler capable of supplying an additional 3 MWth when needed. The system currently heats two of JOTC’s five HFO tanks, with provisions to extend its
coverage in the future.
Thermal insulation was also added to minimize energy loss. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce JOTC’s heating costs and improve system reliability while lowering carbon emissions by increasing the use of renewable energy.
